Sergius Paulus
Lucius Sergius Paulus was born to the prominent Sergii family of Rome, and he was appointed Proconsul of Cyprus in 44 AD. That same year, he invited Saint Paul and Saint Barnabas to visit him in Paphos, as he wanted to hear more about the Christian God. When Paulus' attendant, the Jewish magician Elymas attempted to drive Paulus away from listening to the apostles, Paul blinded Elymas, and Paulus decided to convert. In 47 AD, he was appointed one of the Curators of the Tiber River.
